Caroline Chisholm's image used to be on the Australian five dollar note. When she was removed from it, there were cries of outrage, and many letters to politicians and to editors of newspapers. Caroline was the Immigrants Friend, helping some twenty thousand migrants to settle in Australia when governments were of little help. She had heaps of kids of her own and her husband was often away, but she was always on top of her job. No distance too far. No means of transport too uncomfortable. Caroline was a doer. This book can be used by teachers to encourage students to read widely and be inspired by the deeds of others.
