Nelson Mandela (1918-2013)

Nelson Mandela was a champion of democracy who successfully promoted peace and reconciliation in a violent South Africa. His main enemy was the system of apartheid which separated black, white and coloured South Africans in so many ways. Yet he had the great gift of seeing individual opponents as potential friends. In a way, he was fortunate to have been held in jail for twenty-seven years and this book will tell you why. You will also see that demonstrations all over the world, and even here in Australia, helped to free Mandela and to make South Africa a better place. He well and truly deserved to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
